Continuous legal income

Amount of legal income shall be proved, if it is applied for:

  • residence permit of a long-term resident;
  • Temporary residence permit for a parent or grandparent to settle with an adult child or grandchild;
  • temporary residence permit to a person under guardianship in order to settle with the guardian;
  • temporary residence permit to settle with a spouse residing in Estonia;  
  • temporary residence permit in existence of sufficient legal income;
  • temporary residence permit for studies in Estonia;
  • temporary residence permit for enterprise in Estonia;;
  • temporary residence permit on a basis of an international agreement.


Legal income are deemed to be:

  • lawfully earned remuneration for work
  • income received from lawful business activities or property,
  • pensions;
  • scholarships;
  • maintenance support;
  • parental benefits;
  • unemployment insurance benefits;
  • benefits paid by a foreign state;
  • subsistence ensured by family members earning legal income.

 
Subsistence ensured by family members are deemed to be:

  • maintenance of an under-aged child (of under 18 years of age) by parent;
  • maintenance of an adult child by a parent, if the child is unable to maintain independently due to state of health or disability;
  • maintenance of an adult child by a parent, if the child is studying full time;  
  • maintenance by a spouse;
  • maintenance of a parent or grandparent by an adult child, if the parent or grandparent is unable to cope independently due to state of health or disability;  
  • maintenance of a person under guardianship by the guardian.


If subsistence of the applicant is secured by a family member, then it is necessary to submit additional documents. More detailed information regarding this can be obtained from Service Office of the Citizenship and Migration Bureau of the Prefecture.

Amount of income of 6 months prior to submission of application has to be proved (for example, if application is submitted in the 14th of October, then amounts of income received in April, May, June, July, August and September have to be proved).

Amount of income is calculated on the basis of number of all family members.

Upon application for a temporary residence permit under an international agreement the legal income must meet at least the following rates:

Upon application for a long-term residence permit or temporary residence permit for settling with close relative residing in Estonia the total legal income of the sponsor family and the applicant must meet at least the following rates:*
