A second group of Ukrainian police officers passed management training in Estonia
Last week, 13 Ukrainian police chiefs passed a course in Estonia during which Estonian police officers share their experiences.
Vallo Koppel, the South Prefect and one of the point persons of the training, said that the aim of the course is to increase the management and leadership capacity of the Ukrainian police through introduction of modern management. “For our part, we talk about how we have carried out police reforms in Estonia and what values we are guided by, but for me the value of the course is in the discussions we have with our Ukrainian colleagues. We pass on our knowledge, but we also have a lot to learn from our colleagues there, for example, about working in crises," said Koppel.
The course gives police chiefs an overview of, among other things, the re-establishment of the Estonian Police, management reforms and the implementation of modern management principles, organisational culture, internal control and future developments.
According to Jaanika Heidmets, ESTDEV project manager, the course has been successful so far and Ukrainian colleagues are very interested in Estonia's experience. “Ukrainian police chiefs gained practical knowledge of the leadership capacity and reform experience of the Estonian police,” added Heidmets.
The two-year project started this summer, with a total of six study groups coming to Estonia from Ukraine until 2027. In total, the Police and Border Guard Board provides training to 84 senior and middle-ranking Ukrainian police chiefs from the Ukrainian National Police and Police Headquarters of regions, as well as from police schools.
The same training project is being carried out by the Police and Border Guard Board for the second time already.
The project “European Path: enhancing leadership capacity and cooperation in the Ukrainian police” is financed by the Estonian Centre for International Development ESTDEV.
