PBGB to close Pinna service office in Tallinn at the end of April
The Police and Border Guard Board (PBGB) will close the Pinna service office in Tallinn at the end of April this year. Services in the capital will continue to be provided at Tammsaare tee. It will still be possible to take a document photo and give fingerprints at the police building at Pinna.
Following the closure of the Pinna service office, the police station will retain its speed capture kiosks, where individuals can take a document photo, provide fingerprints and a specimen signature. The applicants can then continue the document application process via self-service portal using their smart device, computer, or a client computer on-site. For document pickup, applicants will have the option to select their preferred Selver store location.
Kristi Hallas, Deputy Director General for Development at the PBGB, stated that the main reason for closing the service office is the need for cost savings. “The PBGB must cut fixed costs again this year. Directing people towards self-service and reducing the workload of service offices is one way to reorganise the work of the PBGB without significantly compromising security,” she explained.
According to Hallas, the closure of the Pinna service office has been prompted by people’s growing habit of using the self-service portal to apply for documents. “Today, the majority of people in Harju County apply for their documents via self-service portal, and this option is becoming increasingly popular among applicants,” added the Deputy Director General.
“Since the beginning of this year, picking up a document from a Selver store has been more affordable than collecting it at a PBGB service office. We see that this option has been well received, and more and more people are choosing to have their documents delivered to their local Selver rather than a service office. In addition to cost savings, Selver’s extended opening hours—both in the evenings and on weekends—make it a convenient choice,” explained Hallas.
With the closure of the Pinna service office, the location for firearm-related procedures will also change. Moving forward, the purchase and sale of weapons, as well as the handover of weapons and ammunition, will only be processed at the police building at Pärnu maantee in Tallinn. Paper applications can still be submitted at the Tammsaare service office in Tallinn.
At the same time as the closure of the Pinna service office, PBGB will also stop issuing documents at Keila police building. When applying for a document via self-service portal, applicants can select Pinna service office or Keila police building as the pickup location until 21 February, and when applying in person at a service office, until 28 February. The PBGB will continue document issuance and customer service at both Pinna service office and Keila police building until 29 April.
