ID card lost or stolen

Button to enter the document application environment

If your ID card is lost or stolen, recall the date of issue of the document, and act accordingly.

ID card issued on or before 14 November 2025

To prevent digital misuse, ID card certificates must be suspended by calling the 24/7 operated number 677 3377 or submitting an application at PBGB service offices to revoke the certificates.

Suspended or revoked certificates cannot be used to access e-services or for digital signing.

If you later find the document and wish to use it electronically, you must apply for a new document.

ID card issued from 17 November 2025

To prevent digital misuse, ID card certificates must be revoked. Revoked certificates cannot be used to access e-services or for digital signing.

The application can be submitted on the PBGB self-service portal under the service “ID-kaardi sertifikaatide kehtetuks tunnistamine” (Revocation of ID card certificates) or at a PBGB service office.

Submit the application on the self-service portal of the Police.

If you later find the document and wish to use it electronically, you must apply for a new document.

Invalidation of the document

An application must be submitted to invalidate a document.

On the application, write:

  • personal data
  • contact details
  • reason that the document must be invalidated

Submit the application:

  • digitally signed by email
  • in writing at a PBGB service office
  • signed and mailed to Politsei- ja Piirivalveamet, Pärnu mnt 139, Tallinn 15060

If you are immediately applying for a new document, your lost or stolen document will be invalidated automatically on the basis of this.

Documents brought to the Police for safekeeping

The Police does not return lost documents brought in for safekeeping, as their further use would not be safe. A document brought to the Police will be invalidated, and a new one must be applied for. The legal basis for the invalidation of the document is the Identity Documents Act.
