Applying for a residence permit
Before applying for a residence permit
What do you need to do before applying for a residence permit?
You need to find an inviting party to invite you to Estonia. In many cases, the inviting party also assumes certain responsibilities for you or needs to submit applications before inviting you to Estonia.
If necessary, you need to conclude agreements with, for example, an employer or an educational institution, or complete procedures that are required before applying for a residence permit. The specific requirements can be found under each type of residence permit.
A document that was issued in a foreign state must be legalized or certified with an apostille. A document issued in a foreign state in a foreign language must be translated into the Estonian or English language. The translation in Estonia must be made by a sworn translator. More information about legalization or apostille process you can find here. You can find suitable sworn translator here.
We also recommend familiarising yourself with Estonia’s climate and general living environment so that you are well prepared for your future immigration to Estonia.
