Reinforcing the border
Wildlife
Several local residents and hunters have raised concerns about the impact of temporary barriers on wildlife movements. The police contacted the Environmental Board for advice on what to do if an animal becomes entangled in razor wire barriers.
In general, small animals will pass through the razor wire, but if the wire is installed in one continuous length, there may be a few isolated cases of larger animals becoming entangled in the wire. To avoid this, the servicemen are instructed to install the razor wire in such a way that an opening can be created every 200–300 metres to allow animals to move. These openings can be quickly closed if migratory pressure increases and they do not affect border security.
