Applying for an ID card for a child
What is it?
An ID card is an identity document with digital functionality, which makes Internet banking and using other e‑services easy, convenient and safe.
An ID card is a compulsory identity document for Estonian citizens aged 15 and more residing in Estonia, that contains fingerprints of the holder of the card from the age of 12.
Person aged at least 15 can apply for the document themselves, and a parent can apply for it for a child under the age of 18.
Estonian citizens can use their ID cards for travelling in European Union Member States and European Economic Area countries.
An ID card is issued also to the citizen of the European Union. An EU citizen ID card is not valid as a travel document.
An ID card is valid for up to five years.
