How can I extend international protection?
You can submit an application for the extension of your international protection residence permit using the PBGB self-service portal at asylum.politsei.ee if your residence permit expires in less than four months. You cannot submit the application for the extension of your residence permit by post or by e-mail.

Once you have submitted your application in the self-service portal, you will receive an e-mail confirmation that your application has been accepted. You will also receive an e-mail when your extended residence permit card is ready and you can collect it at a PBGB service office of your choice.
You can also submit your application for the extension of your international protection residence permit four months before the expiry of your temporary residence permit at the nearest service office of the Police and Border Guard Board.
To apply for the extension of international protection at a service office, you need to book an appointment.
It is not possible to extend an international protection residence permit without booking an appointment in advance.
Is there a fee for extending international protection?
When extending international protection on the asylum.politsei.ee website, the state fee for issuing a residence permit card is 60 euros for individuals aged 18 and over. For individuals under 18, those who have reached the retirement age, and persons with a moderate, severe, or profound disability, the fee is 20 euros.
When extending international protection at a PBGB service office, the state fee for issuing a residence permit card is 70 euros for individuals aged 18 and over. For individuals under 18, those who have reached the retirement age, and persons with a moderate, severe, or profound disability, the fee is 30 euros.
When applying, you should indicate the PBGB’s service office where you would like to collect your new residence permit card. If you wish to change the pick-up location of the document after submitting the application, you will have to pay a fee.
The state fee must be paid before submitting the application.

When can I apply for an extension of international protection?
An application for an extension of an international protection residence permit can be submitted no earlier than four months before the expiry of the residence permit. We kindly ask you to submit your application for extension at least two months before the expiry of the residence permit.
If the international protection residence permit has already expired, you need to book an appointment and attend a PBGB service office to extend it.
Is it compulsory to extend international protection?
There is no obligation to hold or to extend international protection. All Ukrainian citizens have the right to stay and reside in Estonia without applying for international protection, but in this case, there are no accompanying social guarantees.
Can I use my Ukrainian passport to travel from Estonia to Russia?
People under international protection are not allowed to travel to Russia. International protection is granted to Ukrainian citizens specifically to protect them from Russian actions, and voluntarily visiting Russia is grounds for withdrawing international protection.
