Extension of residence permit

Please submit an application for extension of residence permit 4 months prior the expiry of the temporary residence permit to the Police and Border Guard Board at the nearest service point.

  • An application for extension of residence permit on behalf of a child under 18 years of age or on behalf of a ward shall be submitted by his/her legal representative (for example, parent, guardian), if they stay in Estonia and if such is not contradicting to the rights and interest of the applicant.
  • An application for extension of residence permit on behalf of an unattended minor shall be submitted by his/her legal representative (for example, guardian, authorized representative of a guardianship authority), manager of the reception centre or a person authorised by the manager, if such is not contradicting to the rights and interest of the unattended minor.

If an application is submitted by the applicant’s legal representative or authorised representative, please submit:

  • a document certifying the right of representation (except if the right of representation has been entered into the population register of Estonia)
  • an identity document

A decision on extension or refusal to extend the residence permit

The decision on extension or refusal to extend a residence permit shall be made within 3 months from the date of submission of the application, but not later than 10 days prior the expiry of the validity term of the temporary residence permit.

In case of extension of the residence permit a residence card and a travel document of a refugee shall be issued to a refugee, or a residence card and an alien’s passport shall be issued to a person to whom subsidiary protection has been granted.
 

Revocation of a residence permit

The Police and Border Guard Board shall revoke the temporary residence permit of a person having been granted an asylum or subsidiary protection, if the person poses a threat to national security, public safety or public order.
